Netflix India (legally incorporated as Netflix Entertainment Services India LLP) is the Indian subsidiary of the American subscription-based video on demand streaming service Netflix. The service primarily distributes original and acquired Indian films and television shows, as well as Netflix's international content catalog. It is headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra.[1]

It's estimated to have roughly 20 million subscribers in India, much lower than 65 million of Prime Video and 300 million of JioHotstar.[2]

Netflix officially launched its services in India on January 6, 2016, as part of the company's global expansion into 130 new countries.[3] The following year, in April 2017, the company was registered as a limited liability partnership (LLP) in the country and began commissioning local content.[4]

Initially, Netflix struggled to capture a mass audience in India due to premium pricing models that were significantly higher than those of local competitors. To address this, the company introduced a mobile-only subscription plan in 2019.[5] In December 2021, Netflix India further reduced its subscription prices by up to 60 percent across all tiers to aggressively compete with platforms like Amazon Prime Video and Disney+ Hotstar.[6][7]

Under the leadership of Monika Shergill, Vice President of Content for Netflix India, the platform heavily invested in the Indian entertainment market, partnering with local production studios and acquiring post-theatrical streaming rights for major Indian films.[8] In January 2026, marking a decade of operations in the country, the Indian arm reported a 61% jump in net profit to ₹85 crore for the fiscal year.[9]
