Mubeena Ramzan is an Islamic scholar and social activist from Kashmir, known for her work in women's education and empowerment. She is the first Kashmiri woman to be featured in "The Muslim 500" and founded the socio-religious organization Ansar-un-Nisa and the educational institution Jamia Islamia Mahdul Muslimat.[1]
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Mubeena Ramzan was born in 1974 in Sopore (Apple Town of Kashmir), a city of the Baramulla district of Kashmir. She completed her early education at Islamia High School, Sopore. After this, she obtained her graduation degree from Islamia College, Sopore. After graduation, Dr. Mubeena completed her Master's and M.Phil.[2]
She received her M.A. and M.Phil. degrees in Islamic studies from the University of Kashmir.[3]
During her M.Phil. at the University of Kashmir, she completed two dissertations on topics related to Islamic law and social evils.[4]
She also holds a doctorate. In addition, Mubeena Ramzan received education in Islamic sciences from Hazrat Mufti Muzaffar Hussain Qasimi, the Chief Mufti of Darul-ul-Uloom Sopore.[5][6]
Social welfare[edit | edit source]
During her research thesis, there were drastic changes in Mubeena's life. While researching social evils, she realized that just doing research is not enough; steps should also be taken to reduce these social evils.[7][8]
To fight these social evils, Mubeena Ramzan left her lectureship and started from a rented room in Sopore in 2002. She began her work under the aegis of the Mahdul Muslimat Educational Trust.[9]
The purpose of establishing this madrasa was to provide girls with Islamic education as well as skill training.[10]
Founding Ansar–un–Nisa[edit | edit source]
In 2013, Mubeena called a meeting of around 100 women working in different fields in Sopore, where she planned to start welfare work for women. To fulfill the purpose of her plan, she founded an organization named "Ansar un Nisa" in 2014.[11]
This organization helps the needy, including prospective brides, widows, and orphans, and also establishes vocational training centers. Today, it has branches in Sopore (Baramulla), Baghat (Srinagar), and Sumbal (Bandipore).[3]
