Naman Mathur (born 22 May 1997), popularly known by his gaming alias Mortal, is an Indian YouTuber, live streamer, and former esports competitor specializing in PUBG Mobile and its Indian counterpart, Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI).

Career Journey[edit]

Mathur began his gaming career in 2016 by launching a YouTube channel, initially sharing gameplay videos of Mini Militia. However, his breakthrough came in 2018 when he switched to PUBG Mobile, quickly rising to fame through his engaging live streams and competitive gameplay.

In 2019, he achieved early success by winning the PUBG Mobile India Series as part of Team SouL. Later that year, he secured another milestone by winning the PUBG Mobile Club Open - Spring Split: India, earning a spot at the global finals in Berlin, where his team secured 12th place. His achievements earned him the Esports Mobile Player of the Year award at the Indian Gaming Awards in 2019, solidifying his reputation as India’s leading gaming personalities.

After PUBG Mobile was banned in India, Mathur transitioned to BGMI and continued dominating the competitive scene. In 2022, he clinched victory at the Battlegrounds Mobile India Pro Series once again representing Team SouL, further cementing his legacy in India’s esports landscape.

Advocacy & Entrepreneurship[edit]

Mortal has actively championed the growth of esports in India, pushing for its recognition as a mainstream sport. His efforts extend beyond gaming – he co-founded S8UL Esports, a collective of top-tier gamers and content creators. Under his leadership, S8UL secured the Content Creator of the Year title at the Esports Awards three years running (2022–2024), cementing its reputation as a powerhouse in India’s gaming ecosystem.

Awards & Industry Recognition[edit]

Mortal’s personal accolades include back-to-back nominations for Esports Personality of the Year (2022–2023) and two runner-up finishes as Streamer of the Year (2020–2021). His influence has also crossed into mainstream industries – in 2023, he collaborated with MG Motor India to design a gaming-themed version of their electric car, the Comet EV Gamer Edition.

Shaping India’s Gaming Future In April 2024, Mortal joined fellow gamers for a landmark meeting with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, where they discussed strategies to boost India’s gaming and esports infrastructure. This high-profile engagement underscores his role as a bridge between the gaming community and policymakers.

Through his streaming career, entrepreneurial ventures, and advocacy, Mortal continues to shape India’s gaming landscape, inspiring a new generation of gamers while keeping the country at the forefront of global esports trends.
