Mir Junaid (born 2 January 1991) is a writer, a Kashmiri activist[2], a lawyer[3] and a Indian politician based in Jammu and Kashmir. He is currently the president of the Jammu and Kashmir Workers Party.[4][5]

Early life[edit]

Mir Junaid hails from Langate in Kupwara district of the current Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir.[6] Junaid studied law at the University of Kashmir.[1] [7]

Political career[edit]

Mir Junaid has been politically involved from a young age, being both a youth activist and youth leader locally. He has been an activist for over 14 years.

Junaid was previously a member of the National Students' Union of India, the student wing of the Indian National Congress, before leaving.[8]

He was initially and continues to be a vocal supporter of the Indian governments decision to abrogate article 370 and 35a stating, “I believe that the removal of Articles 370 and 35-A gave the people of Jammu and Kashmir a kind of liberation from political dynasts. The weaker sections of the society who are deprived will benefit from the move.”[9][10]
