Mark Antony is an upcoming Tamil-language period science-fiction action thriller film written and directed by Adhik Ravichandran, produced by S. Vinod Kumar under Mini Studio. The film stars Vishal, S. J. Suryah and Ritu Varma alongside Selvaraghavan, Sunil, Abhinaya in supporting roles. The film's music is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar. The cinematography and editing are handled by Abinandhan Ramanujam and Vijay Velukutty.[1]

Development[edit]

In September 2021, it was reported that Vishal would team with Adhik Ravichandran for a movie and woule be produced by S. Vinod Kumar under Mini Studio.[2] In December, it was officially confirmed by the team that they are teaming up for the tentatively titled project Vishal 33.[3] The same month, S. J. Suryah was reported to play the main antagonist role in the movie, and was confirmed on New Year's Day along with the title Mark Antony.[4][5][6] Later on, G. V. Prakash Kumar was added to the crew to compose the soundtrack and background scores.[7] In May 2022, the team announced Ritu Varma in female lead role, Sunil and Nizhalgal Ravi in prominent roles.[8]

Filming[edit]

Principal photography started on 5 May 2022 with a muhurat puja in Chennai.[9] The first schedule took place in Chennai, with Ritu joining them in July.[10] The shooting was placed on hold because Vishal got injured during shooting in August, and was resumed in October with the second schedule.[11] The final schedule started in January 2023 and was nearing shooting completion.[12] S. J. Suryah completed shooting his portions in April.[13] In May, Vishal and Sunil finished their portions, with a cake-cutting.[14]

Post-production[edit]

Vishal had met Vijay to show a teaser from the film which was released by the team on the evening of 27 April 2023.[15] Vishal started dubbing for his portions in May.[16] In July, the team had announced that the film is releasing on Vinayagar Chaturthi.[17] The same month, Vishal, via twitter, stated that the dubbing was in the final stages.[18]

Music[edit]

The film's music and background score is composed by G. V. Prakash Kumar in his second collaboration with Vishal after Naan Sigappu Manithan (2014) and second with Adhik after Trisha Illana Nayanthara (2015).[19] The first single "Adhirudha" released on 15 July.[20]

Release[edit]

Mark Antony is scheduled for a theatrical release on 15 September 2023, coinciding Vinayagar Chathurthi, clashing with Chandramukhi 2.[21]

Home media[edit]

The post-theatrical streaming rights of the film was bought by ZEE5 and the satellite rights of the film was bought by Zee Tamil and Zee Thirai.[22]
