Koira has abundant deposits of iron ore and manganese ore. More than 100 mines are operated in the area. Patmunda is the main reserve of manganese. Rungta Group, Adhunik Group, S.R. Group, and Aryan Group are the major companies operating there.[2]

Dust from the various mining activities is a problem in the town, but precautions have been taken by mining corporations and local authorities to reduce and eradicate the dust.[citation needed]
