HistoryEdit
The platform was founded in 2018 by Pradeep Gunasekaran a tech guy and Suryah SG a lawyer after they thought of discovering something which would present analytical information rather than the sentimental and biased stuff.[3] The main purpose to launch Kathir News was to bring out the mainstream and fact-based news to the general public of Tamil Nadu. The portal publish articles, debates, podcast and interviews in various categories including politics, cinema, spirituality, lifestyle and defense and clocks around 4 Million hits a month. Kathir News also has an exclusive section that busts fake news quite often peddled by both mainstream and social media.[4] They launched a Digital Magazine in February 2021.[4][5]
ControversiesEdit
In June 2020, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam IT Cell Secretary, P Thiaga Rajan listed Kathir News as well as some other media outlets critical of the party and discredit them as "fake news websites". However, during an interview with the Business World, Suryah and Pradeep unfettered by it say that it turned out to be a free publicity for them.[5]
The Party’s mouthpiece Kalaignar News dubbed the block of Kathir News on Twitter social media platform as a measure against Fake News, while Kathir News denied the same & refuted the allegation by calling it a "technical glitch".
