Karlapalem is a village in Bapatla district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the headquarters of Karlapalem mandal in Bapatla revenue division.[4]

History[edit]

As per Gazettee No. 939, dated the 26 January 2022, the old Guntur district, formed in 1904, was split into Guntur district, Palnadu district and Bapatla district. 12 madals from Tenali revenue division and 13 mandals from Prakasam district was merged into the newly formed Bapatla district.[5]

Geography[edit]

Karlapalem is situated at 15°56′N 80°33′E / 15.933°N 80.550°E / 15.933; 80.550. It is spread over an area of 2,623 ha (6,480 acres).[2] The irrigation water for the village and its surrounding areas is drawn from Prakasam Barrage reservoir, through the Kommamuru and Poondla channels of Krishna Western Delta system.[6]

Governance[edit]

Karlapalem gram panchayat is the local self-government of the village.[1] It is divided into wards and each ward is represented by a ward member.[7]

Education[edit]

As per the school information report for the academic year 2018–19, the village has 28 schools. These include 10 private and 18 Zilla/Mandal Parishad schools.[8]
