Kangana Sharma (also spelled Kangna Sharma) is an Indian actress and model who has worked in Hindi cinema, television and digital entertainment. She made her Bollywood debut with the comedy film Great Grand Masti (2016), having previously worked as a model and finished as the second runner-up in the Miss Maxim 2014 competition. She later appeared in the television series Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh, Piyaji and in other film and digital projects.[1][2]
Early life and education[edit | edit source]
Sharma is from Karnal, Haryana. She studied at Kurukshetra University.[2][3]
In interviews about her early life and career, Sharma has described growing up amid financial difficulties. She said that her family moved to a village in Haryana when she was young and that she worked in agricultural fields to help pay household expenses and her school fees. She also said that she worked as a tutor and later as a receptionist before moving into the entertainment industry.[4]
Modelling career[edit | edit source]
Sharma began her career as a model before entering films. In 2013, she participated in the Miss Maxim competition, which was held in Mumbai. Contemporary reports identified her as the second runner-up, with Swapnila Gupta winning the title and Chandrika Ravi finishing as the first runner-up.[5][6]
Her modelling work subsequently led to opportunities in advertising and acting. In 2015, The Indian Express and The Times of India reported that she had been working in modelling for around two years before being cast in Great Grand Masti.[1][2]
Acting career[edit | edit source]
Sharma made her Bollywood debut with Indra Kumar's comedy film Great Grand Masti. The film, the third instalment of the Masti series, starred Riteish Deshmukh, Vivek Oberoi and Aftab Shivdasani. Sharma's casting was reported in 2015 while the film was in production.[1][7]
She subsequently appeared in films including Dulla Bhatti and Ram Ratan. She also appeared in the 2019 film Used.[8]
In television, Sharma made her debut in the StarPlus series Tu Sooraj Main Saanjh, Piyaji. India Today reported in 2018 that she joined the series in an antagonist role after appearing in Great Grand Masti.[9]
Sharma has also worked in digital entertainment. Her later credits have included the web series Mona Home Delivery.[8]
Personal life[edit | edit source]
Sharma has spoken publicly about difficulties in her personal and professional life. In 2024, she described her marriage and subsequent separation in an interview, saying that she had married in 2019 and later discovered that her husband had previously been married. She said the experience affected her career and that she had little professional work between 2020 and 2022.[4]
In the same interview, Sharma also discussed her experiences while seeking acting work. She said that she received inappropriate propositions during casting processes and alleged that she was asked to make personal compromises in exchange for work. These are accounts made by Sharma about her own experiences and have not been independently established by the cited reports.[4]
In August 2026, Sharma again discussed an alleged casting-couch incident during a casting process connected with Hate Story 2. According to her account, a representative of a casting agency made an inappropriate request during a meeting at a restaurant. ABP Live reported her account while noting that she was discussing her own experience.[10]
Political career[edit | edit source]
In May 2022, Sharma joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Navbharat Times reported that she announced her entry into politics and that the party welcomed her into its ranks.[3]
