Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences (KISS) is an educational institution in Bhubaneshwar offering bachelors and masters degree.[2] The institute was started in 1993 by Achyuta Samanta[3] and had 125 children taken from the slums.[4] In 2020, the institute was reported to have 30,000 students from 62 different tribes. KISS is a free residential school for tribal children and provides accommodation, food and other facilities. Kalinga Institute of Social Sciences is a deemed university.[5][6][7] KISS will be one of the first educational institutions in India to have chess as part of the curriculum, with a programme to start in the 2021-22 educational year.[8] In 2017 KISS was granted deemed university status by the Ministry of Human Resource Development[9]
