Kalain is a town in the Cachar district of Assam, India. It is 28 kilometres (17 mi) from the district headquarters, Silchar, and is called the "Gateway of the Barak Valley." Kalain has got wonderful landscapes and considerable tea gardens around it. There are three railway stations, one at Hilara,[1] one at Sukritipur.[2] and one at Behara[3]

Culture & languages[edit]

The people mostly communicate in Sylheti but all major and minor groups of North-East Indian languages like Bishnupriya Manipuri, Khasi, Kachari, Kukish etc. are well spoken among the several groups in Kalain.

Kalain is 300 kilometres (190 mi) east of Guwahati and 190 km from Shillong, 187 km from Mawlynnong-the cleanest village in Asia. It is the main town in the Katigorah (Vidhan Sabha constituency) in Assam.
