The Government Degree College for Boys is an educational institute of South Jehlum Valley. It was established in 1950 as an intermediate co - educational college in Anantnag. Later it was shifted to its present location which was a rent house of the Maharaja. In the early eighties a women’s college was established in the town thereby, making it a seat of learning for boys only.

It was recognised by a national autonomous accreditation body NAAC Bangalore, in the year 2012 when it was accredited with grade “A” with CGPA:3.03.

Degrees[edit]

The college offers various undergraduate courses ranging from Arts, Science, to Humanities.

  3. Bachelor of Science Medical.
  4. Bachelor of Science Non-Medical.
  5. B. Com.
  6. BMMMC.

8. Bachelor of Science in Information Technology.


Facilities[edit]

The college has a library, housed in a newly constructed building, and about 56,000 books in addition to subscriptions to local, national and international magazines, journals and other periodicals. Some departments also have departmental libraries.[2]

Other academic facilities include a study center for Indira Gandhi Open University.[3]

Physical education and first aid health care facilities are available.[2]

Mission[edit]

  • Equip the clientele with meaningful skills.
  • Work in the direction of achieving autonomy with respect to course selection, evaluation and administration.
  • Keep the academic and the non-academic faculty abreast of the changing trends vis-à-vis professional expertise.
  • Create conditions and infrastructure to enable "the institution with a potential for excellence" to become a university.
  • Focus on societal development and research.

Alumni association[edit]

Hostel[edit]

The College Hostel provides accommodation to at least 120 students at a time. Unfortunately the hostel is currently being occupied by security forces and the students from afar have to make their own arrangements at higher costs and less convenience.

The college authorities are hopeful of getting the hostel back as soon as the security forces vacate.[citation needed]
