Ganoji Shirke also known as Ganoji Raje Shirke was a Maratha Commander serving under both Mughals and Marathas. He was brother in law of Maratha king chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. There is a controversy about him betraying Chatrapati Sambhaji leading to his capture and execution. During the Deccan Wars, he helped Maratha King Rajaram Raje during the siege of Jinji.

Life and Regin[edit | edit source]

Ganoji Rao Shirke was the Younger son of Pilaji Rao Shirke the brother of Maharani Yesubai and Brother in Law of Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. His cities ministerial power was taken by Chatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj he helped Muqqrab Khan by revealing the location of Sambhaji resulting his capture and execution however this claim is rejected by several historians. Later he joined Mughals and help Zulfiqar khan in Siege of Jinji, However later he helped Rajaram Raje to escape Jinji and even safely delivered his family to him. He was captured by Aurangzeb. After death of Aurangzeb he was released and joined Marathas under Shahu Maharaj I.[1][2]
