GD Goenka University is a private university[1] located in Sohna (Gurugram district), Haryana, India. It was established in 2013 by the GD Goenka Group[2] through The Haryana Private Universities (Amendment) Act, 2013. The GD Goenka Group was founded by Shri A.K. Goenka. GD Goenka University is approved by University Grants Commission (UGC) and is competent to award degrees as specified by UGC under section 22 of UGC Act, 1956.

Recognition and approvals[edit]

GD Goenka University is a UGC-approved university.[3]

It is also recognised by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and is approved by Council of Architecture (CoA) for Architecture programs, Bar Council of India (BCI) for Law, Pharma Council of India (PCI) for Pharmacy program and Association of Indian Universities (AIU), International Association of Universities (IAU), Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) for its relevant programs.[citation needed]

Awards and rankings[edit]

  • In 2015, GD Goenka School of Engineering was ranked as the 3rd Top Emerging Private Institutes in India by The Times of India.[4]
  • Listed as A Global League Indian University Skill Tree Great Place to Study 2014–16 at House of Commons, London.[5]

Honorary doctorates[edit]

Vikas Khanna: Chef Vikas Khanna is a Michelin Starred Indian Chef, restaurateur, cook book writer, film maker, humanitarian and judge of Master Chef India. GD Goenka University in recognition of his outstanding record of culinary art, philanthropy, altruism and humanitarianism and his global reach as a chef honoured him with Doctor of Philosophy (Honoris Causa) Degree at a special convocation.

Raj Rewal: GD Goenka University hosted a Special Convocation Ceremony on Friday, 29 March 2019 to honour Raj Rewal for his exemplary contribution to the architecture in India. The Indian Institute of Architects also felicitated Shri Raj Rewal on the occasion as one of the oldest members while the acting President of the Council of Architecture Shri Vijay Garg shared his thoughts on the contribution of Raj Rewal to architecture.

Student life[edit]

As part of the teaching practices, students are encouraged to document and present their work to experts. All the schools regularly conduct conferences and seminars where speakers, practicing managers and faculty researchers participate. Some of the events are REDSET, ELIXIR, ICON, ICAP, Media[6] clave, Agora, Code, Ihost, Mootcourt, Speed, ERA, and Udyami Bazaar.

The university organizes several events and other extra-curricular activities. Acceleron, Sportopia, Reva, Transcend, Research Conclave are some of the available activities.
