Association of Commonwealth Universities (ACU) is a charitable organisation established in 1913. It encompasses a network of over 400 member institutions across more than 40 countries within the Commonwealth of Nations. The ACU holds the distinction of being the world's oldest international network of universities. Its core mission is to promote and support excellence in higher education, benefiting both individuals and societies throughout the Commonwealth and beyond.
The Association of Commonwealth Universities is governed by its member institutions via an elected council. As a UK-registered charity, the council members concurrently serve as the organisation's Trustees. The structure of the ACU Council is designed for comprehensive representation, comprising up to 23 members. This includes 20 elected council members, up to two co-opted council members, and provision for the inclusion of the Honorary Treasurer, either through election or co-option.
