Elle is a worldwide lifestyle magazine of French origin. It looks at fashion, beauty, health and entertainment. Elle was created in 1945 by Pierre Lazareff and his wife Hélène Gordon in France.[1] The first international Elle was sent out in Japan in 1969.[2] The United States and United Kingdom versions were first sent out in 1985.[3] Elle is said to be the world's largest fashion magazine.[4]

Elle was launched in many other countries between 1987 and 1996. In 1987, Elle was first published in Italy and Hong Kong. The following year, it began being published in Germany, China, Brazil, Sweden, Greece and Portugal. Russia was the last country to get the magazine; it came to Russia in 1996. Elle is mainly operating from Paris. It also has licensed publishers in New York City, Toronto, London, Madrid, Brussels, Mexico City, Athens and several other international cities.
