Early life[edit]
Moinak Dutta was born on 11th of July 1987, into a Bengali family from Kolkata where his father Mr. Milan Kanti Dutta (deceased) used to work for a multi-national FMCG company. His mother Mrs. Aloka Dutta (deceased) was a home maker.
Growing up in Kolkata, Moinak completed his schooling from The Future Foundation School, from where he passed his ICSE (2003) and ISC (2005). Following that, Moinak pursued his Bachelor's degree from the University of Calcutta, where he chose Journalism and Mass Communication as his Major. Though he had a liking for performing arts, it is in his college years that he thought of giving it a try as a profession.
Career[edit]
Early stints:[edit]
In college, Moinak got an option to participate in a few Bengali reality shows. While participating in one of the reality shows, he got introduced to Don Manuel, who inspired Moinak to take up public speaking and anchoring. After spending some time learning the craft, Moinak started to work as an EMCEE, host and anchor for various event management companies and corporate clients in Kolkata. This gave him more exposure to the Bengali television and media industry in Kolkata.
Television:[edit]
Moinak got his first break in 2009 in the Bengali television series Bou Kotha Kao[2] under the Ravi Ojha Productions, which was telecasted on Star Jalsha. Though the series it self was a massive hit regionally, the initial success that he found with it soon faded away as the story of the series progressed and their segments were reduced due to fall outs amidst the producers and a few other actors. Despite the set, Moinak still managed to get work and acted in various Bengali television series aired on regional channels like Etv Bangla, Zee Bangla, Mahua Bangla, etc.
Film:[edit]
While struggling to make his footing in the Bengali Television industry, Moinak got the opportunity to audition for Tenida[4], which was the sequel to the cult Bengali movie of the Charmurti. Once he cracked the audition, he was offered the character of Habul Sen by the veteran actor and the director of the film Chinmoy Roy. Bad luck however refused to leave his side as the film did not generate much revenue in the box office and the recognition that Moinak was seeking, still continued to evade him.
Moving to Mumbai:[edit]
After working for about a decade in Bengali television and films, Moinak decided to expand his horizon and shifted to Mumbai in the year 2018. In Mumbai, after spending months auditioning for different projects, Moinak got the offer to act in the web series Flesh[5], directed by Danish Aslam, for Eros Now, along side popular actors like Swara Bhaskar and Siddhant Behl. This was a lucky break for Moinak, but the impetus was soon lost due to the spread of Covid19. However, though initially halted, Moinak still managed to get a short film made as lock down project called Moksha[6], which is streaming on MxPlayer.
As a Writer:[edit]
As a student, Moinak had always enjoyed writing. Thus, after spending a few years as an actor and learning about how films and series are made, Moinak took to pen and started writing stories and scripts, most of which remained unpublished. However during the lock down, not knowing what future held, Moinak decided to convert his scripts into books and published the first ebook Courier Service on Amazon Kindle. Along with that, he also wrote and acted in the short film Moksha, which is streaming on MxPlayer.
As a Musician:[edit]
Moinak was introduced to music at an early age, when his father decided to get him tutored for tabla, in Hindustani Classical Music. Being of a really young age, and not understanding what he was doing, Moinak soon fell out of practice. Later, as a teenager, Moinak started playing drums for his school band. But that too stopped once he left college. However, his passion for music never died after that, Moinak kept pursuing music as a hobby and studied how to produce beats and music. In the later half of 2020, Moinak decided to release his beats and instrumental music in public and started to produce under the pseudonym of Shaivya[7][8][9]
