Dheepan Chakkravarthy is an Indian playback singer. He is the son of the first playback singer in the Tamil film industry, "Isai Thendral" Thiruchi Loganathan and grandson of actress C. T. Rajakantham.[1] He is the younger brother of playback singer T. L. Maharajan.

Career[edit]

In 1975, he rendered songs composed by T. R. Pappa in All India Radio. In the same year he had performed several songs on Doordarshan (Indian television) as well. Vadalur Varugai by Thanjai Vanan.

It was In 1980, he entered the Tamil film industry as a playback singer by singing a song composed by Isai Gnani "Maestro" Ilaiyaraaja. The first song he sang was "Oh Nenjame ithu Un Raghame", with S. Janaki, from the film Enakkaaga Kaathiru, directed by P.S.Nivas and penned by Gangai Amaran. However the song that took him to the heights of his career was which was first released was "Poongathavae Thazh Thiravai" from the film Nizhalgal, directed by Bharathi Raja and composed by Isai Gnani Ilayaraja. he has sung more than a thousand songs in Tamil films under the composition of great music composers such as M.S. Viswanathan, G.K. Venkatesh and Manoj Gyan to name a few.

Acting career[edit]

He acted as the lead in the movie Rani Theni, directed by G. N. Rangarajan and Marupatta Konangal, directed by Erode Murugesh. He has also acted in a pivotal role in "Captain" Vijayakanth's Arasangam.

He has also acted in several Tamil television serials such as "Ethanai Manithargal" on Doordarshan, Megala on SUN TV and Aaru Maname Aaru on RAJ TV. Recently he acted in "Magarasi" on Sun TV
