Council of Common Interests
The Council of Common Interests [lower-alpha 1] (CCI) is a constitutional body within the Government of Pakistan, established to address power-sharing disputes between the federation and its provinces. It is appointed by the President based on the advice of the Prime Minister. The CCI operates under the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination and is accountable to both houses of Parliament: the Senate of Pakistan and the National Assembly of Pakistan.
HistoryEdit
The Council of Common Interests (CCI) was established under the 1973 Constitution of Pakistan. Initially, it operated under the Cabinet Division until 2010. Following the enactment of the 18th Amendment, the CCI was transferred to the Ministry of Inter-Provincial Coordination on March 4, 2010. This change aimed to enhance its role in addressing inter-provincial matters and improving coordination among the provinces and the federal government.
MembersEdit
Following the passage of the Eighteenth Constitutional Amendment in April 2010, it became mandatory for the Council of Common Interests (CCI) to convene at least once every ninety days. The membership of the CCI includes representatives from both the federal government and the provinces, ensuring that various stakeholders are involved in discussions regarding inter-provincial coordination and power-sharing issues. This structure aims to facilitate equitable representation and cooperation among all regions of Pakistan.
