Chinnanjiru Nilave (transl. My Little Moon) is a song from the 2023 Tamil feature film Ponniyin Selvan: II, composed by A. R. Rahman and performed by Haricharan and Khatija Rahman. The song surpassed 3 million views in one day.[1][2][3]

There are 2 versions of the song; the main one being sung by Haricharan, which is about 3:27 minute duration, and a reprise version titled Chinnanjiru (Marumurai) was sung by Khatija Rahman, which is about 2:46 minute duration.[citation needed]

Background[edit]

The songs lyrics talks about the tragic relationship between the Prince of the Chola empire Aditha Karikalan, played by Vikram, and the Queen of Pazhavoor Nandini, played by Aishwarya Rai.[4][5]

Reception[edit]

Reviews were generally positive.

An article from The Indian Express stated "Written by Ilango Krishnan, who has penned all the other songs of Ponniyin Selvan, "Chinnanjiru Nilave" has the aesthetics of the iconic Tamil poet Bharathiyar. If it reminds you of one of Bharathiyar's Kannama songs–especially "Theertha Karaiyinile"–then you are not alone".[6]

Members from "Only Kollywood" wrote, "AR Rahman’s recent love for extremely minimalistic melodies continues with this one as well, as he gives it just a tinge of music and leaves the rest to Haricharan who does a fantastic job on the mic. There are shades of class all over the song, and this is a song that is sure to cling onto you, asking for repeated listens."[7]
