| This page in a nutshell: Administrators should generally use the standard deletion processes rather than deleting pages unilaterally. When closing deletion discussions, they should determine rough consensus and document their decisions. |
This page documents a deletion guideline for Bharatpedia administrators. Editors should generally follow it, though exceptions may apply. Substantive edits to this page should reflect consensus. When in doubt, discuss first on this guideline's talk page.
Even administrators should mostly use proposed deletion and the various deletion venues when they think a page should be deleted. There are a few limited exceptions, which are given at Bharatpedia:Criteria for speedy deletion. Every administrator should also read and understand Bharatpedia:Deletion policy. Once the decision to delete (or not) has been made, please document the decision using the procedures at Bharatpedia:Deletion process.
Deciding whether to delete[edit source]
When deciding whether to delete a page, administrators should:
- Determine whether consensus has been achieved by identifying a rough consensus.
- Use common sense and respect the judgment and feelings of Bharatpedia participants.
- As a general rule, not close discussions or delete pages whose discussions they have participated in. Let someone else do it.
- When in doubt, not delete.
Rough consensus[edit source]
Rough consensus is a term used in consensus decision-making to describe the outcome of a discussion where the majority opinion is clear, but not unanimous, and where the concerns of the minority have been addressed. Administrators closing deletion discussions should assess the strength of the arguments presented, not just the number of votes. Arguments that are aligned with Bharatpedia's policies and guidelines carry more weight than those that are not.
Deleting a page[edit source]
When an administrator deletes a page, they should:
- Check that the reason for deletion is valid and falls within the appropriate deletion process.
- Verify that the page is not subject to any deletion review or other ongoing process.
- Use the appropriate deletion summary to explain the action taken.
- Consider whether the page's talk page or subpages should also be deleted.
