It was unfurled by Ramesh Jarkiholi, the district in-charge Minister in March 2018. The flagpole broke the previous height record held by the the one in Pune which is 107 meters (351 ft) tall.
The flag post is 2 meters (6.6 ft) in diameter at the base and 0.6 meters (2.0 ft) at the top. It has a three horsepower motor to raise the flag to the top and two shorter poles with flood lights have been erected around the flag. The flagpole is located in a 1.5 acres park at Kote Kere near the historic Belagavi fort in Belgaum, Karnataka. Earlier, the plan was to erect the flag post on an island in the centre of the lake. However, due to the unstable condition of the soil it was shifted to the bank.[1]
