Athirathram is a 1984 Malayalam feature film directed by I. V. Sasi, written by John Paul and starring Mammootty, Mohanlal, and Seema. Mammootty's character Tharadas re-appears in Sasi's 2006 film Balram vs. Taradas.[1][2][3][4]
Athirathram was the second highest grossing Malayalam film of the year 1984 behind My Dear Kuttichathan.[5] The film elevated the leading actor Mammootty achieving Superstar status.[6][7] The character Tharadas became a cult figure and became popular among the youth. Because of this popularity, this character was retained in the film Balram vs. Tharadas (2006).[8]
