All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Madurai (AIIMS Madurai)[2][3] is a medical research public higher education institute located in the Madurai District, Tamil Nadu, India.The institute operates autonomously under the aegis of the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.[4][5][6] It is one of the seven "Phase-V" All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) cabinet approved on 17 December 2018.

On 2015, in the budget speech for 2015–16, the Minister of Finance Arun Jaitley announced a budget for setting up seven new AIIMS, in Tamil Nadu along with Punjab, Assam, Himachal Pradesh, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, the so-called "Phase-V" institutes. On 17 December 2018 the AIIMS at Madurai was approved by the cabinet at a cost of ₹1,264 crore (equivalent to ₹20 billion or US$280 million in 2019).[7][8]
