Nepal's current national anthem, Sayaun Thunga Phulka, was formally adopted on 3 August 2007 during a ceremony at the National Planning Commission's conference hall in Kathmandu's Singha Durbar Square. The anthem replaced the earlier one, Shriman Gambhir (adopted in 1962), which was discontinued following the abolition of the monarchy.

The lyrics were penned by Pradip Kumar Rai, who wrote under the alias Byakul Maila, while the music was composed by Amber Gurung. The anthem celebrates Nepal's sovereignty, national unity, courage, pride, natural beauty progress, peace, cultural and biological diversity, and collective respect. In 2016, the BBC highlighted it as the third most distinctive anthem in its Rio 2016: The Most Amazing National Anthems list, emphasising its unique musical identity compared to others.

𝄆 Woven from hundred flowers, we are garland Nepali
Sovereignly extended from Mechi to Mahakali. 𝄇

Millions of natural beauties, history like a shawl
Bloods of the braves make it free and immotile.

Land of knowledge and peace, the plains, hills and mountains Himal
One piece beloved country, our motherland Nepal.

Peoples, languages, religions and cultures are incredible
This progressive nation of ours, victory to thee, Nepal![3]
