Shikha Malhotra is an Indian actress and trained nurse who has worked in Hindi cinema. She appeared in the films Fan (2016) and Kaanchli: Life in a Slough (2020). In 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic, she volunteered as a nurse at a Mumbai hospital, where she worked with patients in an isolation ward.[1][2]

Malhotra studied nursing at Vardhman Mahavir Medical College and Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. NDTV reported in 2020 that she held a nursing degree from the institution.[1]
Before returning to healthcare work during the COVID-19 pandemic, Malhotra had pursued a career in acting. Amar Ujala reported that she had completed her nursing course in 2014 before moving into acting.[3]

Malhotra appeared in the Hindi film Fan, starring Shah Rukh Khan.[1][2]
In 2020, she appeared in Kaanchli: Life in a Slough, alongside Sanjay Mishra. NDTV reported that the film had been released in February 2020. The film was directed by Dedipya Joshii and was based on a story by Rajasthani writer Vijaydan Detha.[1]
Nursing during the COVID-19 pandemic[edit | edit source]
In March 2020, during the COVID-19 pandemic in India, Malhotra volunteered as a nurse at the Hindu Hruday Samrat Balasaheb Thackeray Trauma Care Municipal Hospital in Jogeshwari, Mumbai. She joined the hospital's isolation ward after receiving permission from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation.[1][3]
Malhotra said she decided to return to nursing because she had the qualifications to assist patients during the pandemic. According to NDTV, she worked as a nursing officer, helping patients with medication and meals and working in the ward throughout her shifts.[2]
Her work at the hospital received coverage in the Indian media. Mid-Day reported that she had joined the BMC-run hospital as a volunteer nurse following the nationwide lockdown and had been assigned to its isolation ward.[4]
In October 2020, Mid-Day reported that Malhotra had tested positive for COVID-19 after working in the hospital and said she intended to return to work after recovering.[5]
