Deletion review (DRV) is the forum where Bharatpedia editors review the outcome of a deletion discussion or a speedy deletion. It checks whether the closing administrator correctly interpreted the consensus, whether the deletion process was followed, and whether significant new information changes the picture. Deletion review is not a second deletion discussion, and it is not a place to simply repeat the arguments that were already made.

Purpose

Deletion review may be used:

 • if someone believes the closer of a deletion discussion interpreted the consensus incorrectly;
 • if a speedy deletion was made outside the established criteria, or is otherwise disputed;
 • if there were substantial procedural errors in the deletion discussion or the speedy deletion;
 • if significant new information has come to light since the deletion that would justify undeleting the page;
 • if a page appears to have been wrongly deleted and it is not clear what exactly was deleted;
 • to appeal the outcome of a discussion that kept a page, where the close is said to have misread the consensus.

Deletion review should not be used:

 • to ask for a routine undeletion that any administrator can grant; use Bharatpedia:Requests for undeletion instead;
 • because you disagree with the outcome but cannot point to an error in the close;
 • to repeat arguments already made in the deletion discussion;
 • to point to other pages that have or have not been deleted; each page is judged on its own merits;
 • to challenge a deletion made under proposed deletion; those pages can be restored on request at Bharatpedia:Requests for undeletion;
 • to attack other editors or accuse them of bias.

Before listing a review

 • First, discuss the matter with the administrator who closed the discussion (or who deleted the page) on their talk page. A mistake, miscommunication or misunderstanding can often be resolved there, and a full review may not be needed. It also gives the closer a chance to explain the reasoning behind the decision.
 • If your request is uncontroversial (for example, restoring a page deleted under proposed deletion, or a page deleted by mistake), ask at Bharatpedia:Requests for undeletion instead.
 • Write the request in your own words, and keep it focused on the close and the process, or on the new information.

How to list a deletion review

Add a new entry at the top of the "Current reviews" section below, using this format:

:PAGENAME
* Deleted after: Bharatpedia:Articles for deletion/PAGENAME (or: speedy deletion, criterion code; or the relevant discussion page)
* Closing administrator: User:NAME
* Reason for review: Your reason, focused on the close or on the new information. ~~~~

Then:

 1. Notify the closing administrator on their talk page that the decision is under review, with a link to this page.
 2. If the review asks to overturn a "keep" outcome, also leave a note on the article's talk page, so that editors watching the article know about the review.
 3. If the page was deleted, an administrator may temporarily undelete it while it is under review so that everyone can see it, except where the content is a copyright violation or otherwise prohibited material.

Commenting in a deletion review

Any editor may comment in a review. Begin your comment with one of the following, in bold, followed by your reasoning and your signature (~~~~):

 • Endorse – the original closing decision was correct and should stand;
 • Overturn – the original decision was wrong; you may add the action you favour, for example "Overturn and delete" or "Overturn and keep";
 • Relist – the question should go back to the original deletion forum for a fresh discussion;
 • Allow recreation – new information justifies allowing the page to be created again from scratch.

Remember that deletion review is about the correctness of the close, not a fresh vote on the subject itself. Where the case rests on new information, Relist or Allow recreation is usually the right recommendation, so the new material can be assessed in a full discussion.

Closing reviews

 • Reviews normally remain open for seven days.
 • An uninvolved administrator closes the review and records the outcome in the entry.
 • Possible outcomes are endorse (the original decision stands), overturn (the page is restored, or deleted if a keep close is overturned), relist (a new discussion is opened at the original forum), or allow recreation.
 • The closing administrator carries out the agreed action, or notes that no action is needed.
