Articles for deletion (AfD) is the central discussion area where Bharatpedia editors decide whether an article in the main namespace should be deleted. Items listed here are typically discussed for seven days; afterwards an administrator closes the discussion and either deletes the article, keeps it, or applies another outcome supported by the consensus.

Introduction

AfD covers mainspace articles only. The other deletion areas are:

  • Speedy deletion – pages that meet a strict, uncontroversial criterion
  • Proposed deletion – uncontroversial articles that do not meet a speedy criterion
  • Copyright problems – text in any namespace that violates copyright
  • Miscellany for deletion – pages outside the main namespace, such as user pages, project pages and drafts
  • Templates, categories, redirects and files have no dedicated forum yet; list them at Miscellany for deletion for now.

The undeletion of articles deleted after an AfD discussion, and debates about whether an AfD close was proper, belong at Bharatpedia:Deletion review.

Before nominating an article

Please keep the following in mind:

  • Read the article and check its sources first. Many problems can be fixed by ordinary editing; deletion is a last resort for articles that cannot be improved to meet Bharatpedia's standards.
  • Search for additional reliable sources; the "Find sources" links that appear on each discussion page help with this. If good sources exist, improve the article instead of nominating it.
  • Consider alternatives to deletion. Merging the content into a related article, or redirecting the title to a broader topic, often solves the problem without a discussion.
  • Check whether the article has been nominated before. Earlier discussions sit at subpages of this page named after the article; a renomination should present new arguments, not repeat the old ones.
  • Do not nominate an article only because you dislike its subject or its current wording.

How to nominate an article

To list an article for deletion, follow this three-step process. Replace PageName with the full name of the article.

Step I. Place the AfD tag on the article you are nominating.

{{subst:afd}}
Save the article. The tag will display a notice on the article and link to the discussion page. If the article has been nominated before, the tag will tell you to change "page=" to read "page=PageName (2nd nomination)" before continuing.

Step II. Create the discussion page.

Follow the link in the notice (it leads to Bharatpedia:Articles for deletion/PageName). On the empty page, insert:
{{subst:afd2|pg=PageName|text=Your reason for nomination. ~~~~}}
Save the page. This creates the discussion where other editors can comment.

Step III. List the discussion on today's log.

Go to today's log (title format: Bharatpedia:Articles for deletion/Log/YEAR MONTHNAME DAY, for example Bharatpedia:Articles for deletion/Log/2026 November 4). If the page does not exist yet, create it first with the single line {{subst:AfD log}} and save. Then add, at the top of the list:
{{subst:afd3|pg=PageName}}
Save the log. The discussion is now live, and it also appears automatically under "Current discussions" below.

Notes:

  • You must be logged in to complete Steps II and III.
  • Notify the article's creator on their talk page with {{subst:Afd notice|PageName}}.
  • Twinkle's XfD feature can perform all three steps automatically.
  • Multiple related articles may be bundled into a single nomination; see the Bundling section below.

Bundling nominations

If several related articles should be discussed together, nominate the primary article as above, then add {{subst:afd2|pg=PageName|text=...}} entries for the others on the same discussion page, or place a joint rationale on the primary discussion page and tag the other articles so that their notices point to the shared discussion. Keep bundled nominations to a reasonable number so that the discussion remains manageable.

Discussion and closure

  • Discussions normally remain open for seven days from the date of listing. If there is no clear consensus, a discussion may be relisted to give it more time.
  • Any editor may comment; comments should be signed with four tildes (~~~~).
  • An administrator closes the discussion. The closing administrator uses {{subst:Afd top|result=Outcome summary. ~~~~}} at the top of the discussion and {{subst:Afd bottom}} at the bottom.
  • Possible outcomes include delete, keep, merge, redirect, speedy keep, or no consensus (which normally defaults to keeping the article).
  • After closing, the administrator performs the action (or notes that no action is needed) and removes the AfD tag from the article if it is kept.
  • If you believe a discussion was closed incorrectly, you may take it to Bharatpedia:Deletion review.

Current discussions

Discussions are listed on daily log pages, organised by the date of nomination. The three most recent days are shown below; older open discussions are on their own log pages.

The article lacks reliable, independent sources establishing notability. Several references are unavailable (404 errors), and my research did not find sufficient coverage to meet Bharatpedia's notability guidelines. I recommend deletion.
