Central University of Gujarat in Gandhinagar, Gujarat, India was established through an Act of Parliament, Central Universities Act, 2009 by Government of India.[3]

The university includes 16 schools, 14 academic departments, and 2 other special centres.[4]

2009 Bill

The Central Universities Bill 2009 aims at creating one new central university each in Bihar, Gujarat, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu and Kashmir, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Kerala, Odisha, Punjab, Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.[5]

It also seeks to convert Guru Ghasidas Vishwavidyalaya in Chhattisgarh, Harisingh Gour Vishwavidyalaya in Sagar (Madhya Pradesh), Utkal University in Bhubaneswar, Odisha and Hemwati Nandan Bahuguna Garhwal University in Uttarakhand into Central universities.[6]

Research Plagiarism

The plagiarized version of research article published by Dr. Man Singh (Professor & Dean), [7] School of Chemical Sciences, Central University of Gujarat, has been withdrawn from the Journal Current Graphene Science. [8]

After getting heavy criticism on PubPeer [9] the whistleblowing platform, the research article published by Dr. Man Singh (Professor & Dean), [10] subjected to erratum/correction [11]

Accusation of misconduct

The mail, allegedly written by a group of students, was sent to UGC as well as Gandhinagar superintendent of police on On date 28 September 2013. Various charges have been levelled against Dr Man Singh (Professor & Dean), [12] in the mail. It stated, “In November 2012, some students belonging to MPhil (Chemical Science) raised their voice against these problems. They wrote a letter to Vice-Chancellor R. K. Kale, who scolded the students for doing so. “Then, Dr Singh forced the students to withdraw the letter and tender an apology. Dr Singh then used vengeful tactics like delaying MPhil results, giving passing grades to those students, stopping them from entering the laboratory, and refusing to sign their fellowship forms. Several students left due to these pressure tactics.” [13]
