Bapatla is a city in Bapatla district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is the district headquarters and mandal headquarters of Bapatla mandal in Bapatla revenue division. [1]
History
As per Gazettee No. 939, dated the 26 January 2022, the old Guntur district, formed in 1904, was split into Guntur district, Palnadu district and Bapatla district. 12 madals from Tenali revenue division and 13 mandals from Prakasam district was merged into the newly formed Bapatla district. [2]
Geography
Bapatla municipality, established in 1951, covers an area of 17.92 sq km. It is located 80 km from the state capital. In general, it has a tropical climate and has an annual rainfall of 283 mm, most of it from October to December. [3]
Demographics
According to the 2011 census, Bapatla municipality had a population of 70,077 and it had a literacy rate of 80.7%.[4]
Education
The following institutions are located in Bapatla:
- Bapatla College of Arts and Sciences, established in 1963, is affiliated with Acharya Nagarjuna University and offers degree courses in humanities, science, commerce and computer science and also intermediate courses. [5][6]
- Bapatla Engineering College, established in 1981, is affiliated with Acharya Nagarjun University and offers degree courses in engineering. [7]
Culture
Bapatla Bhavanaryana Swamy temple was built during the reign of Chola King, Krimikanta Chola in the 5th century AD. The main deity Ksheera Bhavanarayana Swamy is residing here with His consort Sundarvalli. Pavitrotsvam and Rathotsavam is celebrated with thousands of devotees participating. The temple is under the control of the Archaeological Survey of India. [8]
