Shamshera
Shamshera is an upcoming Indian Hindi-language period action film produced by Aditya Chopra under Yash Raj Films and directed by Karan Malhotra.[3][4] The film stars Ranbir Kapoor, Sanjay Dutt and Vaani Kapoor.[5][6][7] Set in the 1800s, Shamshera tells the story of a dacoit tribe, and their fight for independence against the British rule.[8]

Production
Shamshera was officially launched in May 2018 by Yash Raj Films through a motion poster, starring Ranbir Kapoor as the titular character Shamshera.[16] Sanjay Dutt was cast as antagonist, and Vaani Kapoor was signed to play the female lead.[6][7] To prepare her role, Vaani Kapoor took professional training in Kathak.[17] Kapoor portrays a dancer.[18][19]
Principal photography begun in December 2018.[9] For the film, a massive fort was built at Film City, Goregaon, requiring 2 months of preparation and the effort of nearly 300 workers.[20] Filming ended in September 2020.[21][11][22]
Soundtrack
The music of the film is composed by Mithoon. Lyrics are written by Mithoon, Karan Malhotra, and Piyush Mishra. The first single was released on 29 June 2022.[23]

Release
Shamshera is scheduled to be released in cinemas on 22 July 2022.[12] Originally planned for cinema release on 20 December 2019, Shamshera was later on highly delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic.[4][11] It was then rescheduled to 25 June 2021, but due to the second wave of pandemic, the release was postponed to 18 March 2022, that once again got deferred due to Omicron variant spread. Now, it is scheduled for a worldwide release on 22 July 2022.[22] The film will be released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu and in IMAX theatres.[12]
