PlotEdit
The plot revolves around a grocery store named Pandya store. The store was owned by the late Darshan Pandya, and now the responsibilities of running the store and taking care of the family rest with Gautam. Gautam is the eldest of Pandya siblings. His marriage is fixed with Anita, Gautam's maternal aunt's (Prafulla) niece. Anita and Prafulla have no sympathies for the Pandya family and their sole aim is to own the Pandya store. Not knowing that the Pandya Store is under mortgage, Anita goes ahead with the marriage. On the wedding day, when Anita finds out, she breaks the marriage and Gautam decides to marry Dhara. Dhara is Gautam's friend's sister and is a kind hearted girl. Gautam’s younger brothers, Dev, Krish and Shiva welcome Dhara to the Pandya House while Suman objects. Although unwillingly, she later accepts Dhara as her daughter-in-law. Suman, who was paralyzed started recuperating, while Dhara and Gautam together reclaim the Pandya Store. Dhara comes up with novel ideas to bring Pandya Store out of financial crisis. Slowly, Dhara and Gautam fall in love. Dhara decides not to start her own family until she completely settles her brothers-in-law.
Ten years laterEdit
Dev, Krish and Shiva have grown up to be mature adults. Dhara and Gautam reopen the Pandya Store after ten years and hence, a huge function is hosted. Raavi, Prafulla's niece, confesses that she loves Dev. While Raavi gets along with everyone in the Pandya house, she and Shiva remain at loggerheads. Jagat pleads with Suman for the alliance and then the marriage is fixed between them. But Dev is already in a relationship with Rishita, a rich man's daughter. Rishita's parents do not accept her love instead force her to accept another allaince. Dev tries to make his family realise that he loves Rishita. Dev reveals to Dhara as he can't betray either Rishita by marrying Raavi or Raavi by marrying her without love as this is not what Dhara has taught him. Dhara agrees to go and talk to Rishita's family about the alliance but is slapped and humiliated by Rishita's family. Dev and Shiva reach Janardhan's house and have a physical altercation with the family for insulting Dhara. He breaks all ties with Rishita and agrees to continue his marriage with Raavi. Dev realises that he cannot forget Rishita, but stays quiet.
On the wedding day Rishita runs from her house and comes to the wedding venue shocking everyone. She spills the beans on her and Dev's relation and Dev supports her, leaving Raavi heartbroken. Raavi attempts suicide by hanging on a fan but Shiva saves her. Raavi blames Dhara as she has always loved and admired Dhara like her superhero. Suman's condition worsens and they all rush to her, she too blames Dhara. Dhara asks Shiva to marry her. Shiva agrees for Dhara's sake. Dev and Rishita and Shiva and Raavi get married. Rishita repeatedly insults Raavi during their after wedding rituals. Later, when Rishita stops Dhara from doing the welcome pooja and asks her to let Suman do it, Suman defends Dhara. Shiva too warns Rishita against disrespecting Dhara, and even puts her down when she tries to scorn Raavi. Rishita later creates a scene when Raavi is given Dhara's room, which is bigger than the one given to her. Raavi gives her the room and asks her to stop insulting her, she tells her she doesn't want Dev or the room. Shiva and Raavi remain at loggerheads, while Rishita continues to create conflict at the Pandya house.
The next day the three couples go for a pooja, but on the way Shiva and Raavi are kidnapped by the goons sent by Rishita's father. Krish learns of their kidnapping and informs everyone. Dev and Gautam suspect Janardhan (Rishita's father) for this misdeed and go to his house to blackmail him. Shiva and Raavi also accidentally learn about Janardhan. Meanwhile, Dhara, Rishita and Krish return to their house and are taunted by Maami who went to the Pandaya house to see Raavi. Things seem complicated with Shiva and Raavi, but, because of the timely arrival of the Pandya brothers, Shiva and Raavi are saved.
Suman sends the four brothers and their wives for kuldevi puja which is near their family friend's haveli. During the journey Dev and Shiva have a heated spat only to be resolved by Gautam and Dhara. Shiva and Raavi continue with their usual banter.

ProductionEdit
DevelopmentEdit
In January 2020, Star Plus planned an official Hindi remake of Star Vijay's Tamil series Pandian Stores to be produced by Mahesh Pandey Productions under the title Khandaan.[1][2]
With a change in title to Hum– Ek Makaan Ek Dukaan, filming began in February 2020 with portions shot in Varanasi but, shooting was halted in March 2020 due to the coronavirus pandemic.[3]
After the lockdown, the series was shifted to Star Bharat. The channel changed its programming genre to comedy from drama due to which it was scrapped and the plot was changed completely to suit it.[4][5]
Later, filming began in July 2020 post-COVID break and the show was aired with the title Gupta Brothers - Chaar Kunware From Ganga Kinaare from 5 October 2020, as a dramedy series to suit Star Bharat's comedy genre.[6][7]
But due to low response from the audience towards Star Bharat’s comedy genre, the channel underwent a revamp once again and the show's genre was again changed to drama, with its plot being loyal to the plot of the original Pandian Stores and the show being rebaptized as Gupta Brothers.[8]
In December 2020, Star Plus announced another Hindi television remake of Pandian Stores titled Pandya Store produced by Sphere Origins which premiered on 25 January 2021. Pandya Store's plot is more loyal to Pandian Stores.[9][10]
With the launch of the second official Hindi television remake of Pandian Stores; the first official Hindi television remake Gupta Brothers was announced to go off-air on 5 February.[11][12] But, later, Gupta Brothers went off-air abruptly on 26 January, earlier than the announced date.[13]
Deven Bhojani was hired as the creative consultant for the series in January 2021.[14]
On 5 March 2021, it took a generation leap of ten years.
CastingEdit
Kinshuk Mahajan was cast as Gautam Pandya, on preparing for which he said, "To fit into the skin of my character I had to lose about 5kgs and had a grueling diet. Also since this show is based in Somnath, Gujarat, I had to work on my dialect, luckily Shiny, my co-actor was my guide." Shiny Doshi who was cast as Dhara said, "It was necessary to work towards certain nuances to meet the requirements of my character. We also attended workshops before we began shooting for the show."[15]
In March 2021, the show took a generation leap and Kanwar Dhillon, Alice Kaushik, Akshay Kharodia, Mohit Parmar and Simran Budharup were introduced as the new leads alongside Kinshuk and Shiny.[16][17]
FilmingEdit
Set in Somnath in Gujarat, the series is mainly shot at Film City, Mumbai.[18] Besides, some initial sequences were shot at Somnath and Bikaner in Rajasthan.[19][20]
On 20 February 2021, a massive fire broke out on the sets of the series and some parts of the set, some costumes and some shoot material were burnt.[21][22]
On 13 April 2021, Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Uddhav Thackeray announced a sudden curfew due to increased Covid cases, while the production halted in Mumbai from 14 April 2021.[23] Hence, the production location of the series was soon shifted temporarily to the Gajner Palace in Bikaner.[24]
Release and broadcastEdit
The first promo of the series was released on 26 December 2020 featuring the parallel leads Shiny Doshi and Kinshuk Mahajan.[25]
On 17 April 2021, it aired a one-hour episode at 10:00 PM, instead of 11:00 pm.
The show debuted in the late-night slot of 11.00 PM and garnered high ratings, so it continued in its slot. Another StarPlus show titled Shaadi Mubarak’s filming halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic and its lead actor was infected with the coronavirus.[26] On 21 April 2021, after Shaadi Mubarak’s bank episodes had finished airing, its 7:30 PM timeslot was allotted to Pandya Store, keeping 11.00 PM as the repeat slot.[27]
RatingsEdit
During the latenight slot, the show garnered somber ratings ranging between 1-1.1 TRP. After shifting to the late-evening slot, the show's ratings rose 2.1 TRP ratings and has the slot's highest ratings.
