Utpal V Nayanar (born 27 December 1959) is an Indian cinematographer and director from Kasaragod, Kerala. He has been active in Tamil and Malayalam films for over 30 years. Along with movies in more than five languages, including Malayalam,Tamil, Kannada, Thulu and Kongini, he worked as an assistant on more than 100 movies. He filmed over fifty advertisements and more than ten mega serials under reputed directors such as PN Menon, Mohan Kupleri, and Venniraaadai Moorthi in Malayalam and Tamil.

Personal lifeEdit

Utpal Nanayanar was born in the Kasargod district of Kerala.He married Latha in 1995. Latha is a homemaker. They have two children, Visakh and Meghna. Nayanar lived in Chennai for twenty years and settled in Kochi. Nayanar serves as treasurer to the Cinematographers Union of Malayam Cinema (CUMAC). He is a life member of Malayalam Cine Technicians Association (MACTA) and Southern India Cinematographers Association (SICA). He is an executive member of the Mauritius Film Development Corporation (MFDC).
