2023–24 I-League 3 is the 1st season of the I-League 3 since its establishment in 2023. It is also the 1st season as the fourth tier of the Indian football league system. The top three teams on the league table will secure a place in the 2024–25 I-League 2 season.[1]
This is the league's first edition.
On 11 August 2023, the League Committee of AIFF announced that for the newly-formed 3rd Division League, nine state FAs fulfilled the criteria for nominating teams - Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Karnataka, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Maharashtra.[2]
List of Nominated Clubs[edit]
On 22 August 2023, the following clubs were nominated for the 3rd Division League by nine state FAs (Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Goa, Gujarat, Bangalore, Madhya Pradesh, Punjab, Rajasthan, and Mumbai), which complied with the nomination criteria. Meanwhile, nominations from 10 other states will be confirmed after due diligence. The FAs are Manipur, Dadra and Nagar Haveli and Daman and Diu, Kerala, Pondicherry, Sikkim, Uttar Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Telangana, and West Bengal.[3]
Until the previous season, the AIFF allowed only state champions to feature in the qualifiers, but with the creation of I-League 3 from where teams would move to I-League 2 in the same season, more teams are being added. From Goa, the title winners Dempo SC along with runners-up Sporting Club de Goa are confirmed to feature in the 2023-24 I-League 3[4]
