Before embarking on her social media journey in 2019, she spent over ten years as a competitive dancer. She gained immense popularity by sharing dance videos on TikTok, quickly building a substantial following. D'Amelio became the platform's most-followed creator in March 2020, a title she held until being surpassed by Khaby Lame in June 2022. As of 2025, she boasts over 15.5 crore followers, making her the second most-followed individual on TikTok.
Charli D'Amelio made her feature film debut by lending her voice to the 2020 animated film StarDog and TurboCat. She has starred in the Hulu reality series The D'Amelio Show since 2021, featuring her family, and co-led the Snap Original reality show Charli vs. Dixie alongside her sister from 2021 to 2022. In 2022, she achieved significant recognition by winning the thirty-first season of the dance competition series Dancing with the Stars, partnering with Mark Ballas. D'Amelio also made her Broadway debut in the ensemble cast of & Juliet in October 2024.

Early life
Charli Grace D'Amelio was born on 01 May 2004, in Norwalk, Connecticut.[1][2] She is the daughter of Heidi D'Amelio, a photographer and ex-model, and Marc D'Amelio, a businessman who previously ran as a Republican candidate for the Connecticut Senate. Charli has an elder sister, Dixie, who is also known for her presence on social media.
Starting her dance journey at the tender age of three, Charli spent over a decade as a competitive dancer before launching her TikTok career in 2019.
Initially, she attended the private King School located in Stamford, Connecticut, but after achieving success on TikTok, she transitioned to virtual schooling.
Career
2019–2021: Rise to prominence and TikTok
D'Amelio started her TikTok journey in May 2019 by posting a lip-syncing video with a friend. Her first video to gain significant attention was a duet with the user Move With Joy, which she uploaded in July 2019. Charli has mentioned her bewilderment regarding her sudden fame, stating to Variety, I see myself as just a regular teenager whom many people watch for some reason. It doesn’t quite make sense to me, but I’m trying to understand it. Since then, most of her content has revolved around dancing to popular songs on the platform.
In October 2019, she gained even more visibility for her performances of the "Renegade" dance to K Camp's song "Lottery". This led to her being credited with popularising the dance on social media, although there were misconceptions that she had created it, earning her the title of "CEO of Renegade" among TikTok users. However, following a New York Times article highlighting dancer Jalaiah Harmon as the original creator of the dance, Charli faced online criticism for not giving credit to Harmon. In response, she began to consistently acknowledge the original creators of the dances she showcased. In November 2019, she joined The Hype House, a collaborative TikTok content house, along with her sister, Dixie.
