The population consisted of 17,593 males and 17,469 females.[3][10] About 3,473 individuals were below the age of six years.[1] The entire population is classified as urban. The town has an average literacy rate of 82.9%. About 9.8% of the population belonged to scheduled castes.[3][1] About 46.4% of the eligible population were employed full-time.[3][1]

Hinduism was the majority religion which was followed by 84.2% of the population, with Christianity (14.2%) and Islam (1.4%) being minor religions.[11]
