Jalahalli is one of the less congested areas in Bengaluru. 25% of the area remains green because most of the land is possessed by big entities like [[Bharat Electronics Limited]] and [[Hindustan Machine Tools]]. There are many parks and roads in this area. BEL Park which starts from the BEL Circle is one of the biggest parks and also provides roller skating. HMT Cinemas which entertained movie goers of all sections of society in the late eighties and nineties had been closed for years until it reopened in 2010.

Jalahalli Village is surrounded by large government organizations and these started shortly after independence. Many of the people in Jalahalli village are ex employees from these organizations. (Bharat Electronics Limited AKA BEL, Hindusthan Machine Tools Aka HMT, Airforce and ISRO). Their children have benefited from the IT boom that occurred in Bangalore in the late '90s.  Before independence, this was a tiny hamlet of local villagers and the only notable thing was the Indian Air Force training centre set up by the Royal Air Force during the British rule.  The road leading to the Ayappan temple was a runway for small planes, and the Jalahalli East campus extended up to Nagaland where some Pakistani POWs were kept.

The area is connected by Bangalore Metropolitan Transport Corporation. Following are the buses connecting the area with major areas/bus terminus of the city.

BMTC Bus with number:

  • 271D, 271J connects Jalahalli with Kempegowda Bus Station/Majestic.
  • 271J connects Jalahalli with K R Market.
  • 270C connects Jalahalli with Shivajinagar.
  • 273C connects Majestic with Jalahalli Cross.[4]
  • 258 series buses connect Majestic and Nelamangala town in Bangalore Rural district. This route has a stop at Jallahali.[5]

In Movies and Books[edit | edit source]

The 1979 Kannada film "Arivu" (Awareness) directed by Katte Ramachandra was shot in Jalahalli (BEL Colony and BEL School) in the late 70s.[citation needed]

The Killer of Jalahalli (a leopard) is one of the stories in the book called Nine Maneaters and One Rogue by written by Kenneth Anderson. [6]
