As the state ranked at the bottom in terms of public funded academic and research institutions; it has always been a priority to research. Since the establishment of the institute, there have been five major research projects. One project has been completed and two research projects are underway. Preparations are underway to launch two more research projects. The first research project of the organization was based on Oriya language. As the institute's second research project, the institute is conducting extensive research on the origin and Development of the Indian scripts. Dr. [[Subrat Kumar Prusty]], Member Secretary of IOSR and UGC Research Scholar, who has prepared the research Document for classical status of the Odia language, are engaged in this research. The main goal of this research project is to get to the root of the Indian script. As a result, the way in which the Indian language script has been created and developed can be brought to the forefront and all the misconceptions that have existed over the Indian script for over 150 years can be easily removed. In this regard, Dr. Prusty's research papers have been presented at various national and international seminars and conferences and have been highly acclaimed by scholars from all over the world. As part of the project, a special date has been set for the pre-Brahmi script as the first form of the Indian script, and the script, along with the original cave paintings and paintings, and the only script, the Indus Valley script, have been adopted in this phase. The project is being funded by various charities and financially supported by various institutions.

The institute's third research project is the Ancient Trade and Traditional Festival of Odisha. The results of the Third National Language Conference organized by the institute show how the maritime tradition that has strengthened the economy of Odisha. How in the past it has created a prosperous culture  and  brought women to a respectable class. The main task of this research project is to show how the role of women for the betterment and well-being of the family has streamlined and developed the economy, social life of the family through the celebration of all the cultural festivals of Odisha by the women. Suchismita Das, an economics researcher, has been employed by the institution in this research work. The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India has been providing fellowships for two years from 2020.

According to the results of the third language conference organized by the institute of Odia Studies and Research, it was decided to launch a special study on women's empowerment to make the education system more popular. In view of this, it has been decided to launch the research project for the economic and social development of women with a large part of population in Odisha.

According to the decision of the meeting, research on natural language processing was started. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the [[Utkal University]], Bhubaneswar on 15.03.2016 for intellectual support of the research project. A new research project has been developed in consultation with the Department of Computer Science at the Utkal University as part of the research.

The Conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Education Badrinarayana Patra and was attended by more than two hundred scholars of languages, linguistics, humanities and sociologist.  Dr. Hermann Kulke, Professor at Kiel University, Germany, Prof.  H.C. Boralingaiah, Vice-Chancellor of Kananda University, Prof. K. Rathnaiah, Vice-Chancellor of Dravida University, Dr. K. Ramasamy, Founder Director CICT were participated as guests. the seventh National Language Conference (2021) was held on 31 March – 1 April 2021 at Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri, Odisha.

  • IOSR signed a MoU on 1 October 2014 with the Indira women Organisation for voluntary action (IWOVA), Odisha having joint endeavor in Research, Teaching, monitoring and Mobilizing women and organizing them on socio economic issues in all over Odisha.
  • IOSR has signed a MoU on 15.03.2016 with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar, under the joint endeavor in the field of computational linguistics and research.
  • Institute of Odia Studies and Research (IOSR) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU)[13] on 18 October 2021 with The All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), Ministry of Education, Government of India for translation of technical books in Odia language.[14] The MoU was signed in presence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan who in his address said the collaboration that will help in developing study materials for engineering education in Odia language is a major step towards ensuring education in mother tongue, one of the biggest recommendations of National Education Policy (NEP)-2020. Objective is to facilitate the preparation and introduction of technical-books in Odia at Degree and Diploma Level from the academic session of 2022 (primarily through translation of model texts-books in English language prepared / recommendedby AICTE).

The annual National Language Conference started after the recognition of Odia as a classical language organized by the Institute of Odia Studies and Research for two days on 2 and 3 January 2014 to prepare its next outline. The goal was to help create a platform to discuss language issues and support language movement in preserving the regional heritage and culture.

IOSR has opened first language library of Odisha with 5325 books, five daily and five monthly journals have been subscribed. Hon’ble Law & Panchayatiraj Minister Dr. Arun Kumar Sahu and Hon’ble Mass Education & Industry Minister Sj. Debi Prasad Mishra inaugurated the library at Bhubaneswar.[25][26]
