Institute of Odia Studies & Research (IOSR) is a non-profit voluntary organization which aims at research based development of Odia language, literature, culture and training based expanded use of the language in diverse domains. The mission of the institute is to develop Odia as a language of knowledge as well as of development. It is working for the establishment of a Central Institute Of Classical Odia as well as an Odia Biswabidyalaya. During the past ten years the institute has organised discussion groups, state and National level seminars and Conference.

HistoryEdit
Establishing an Institute of Odia Studies & Research (IOSR) in Odisha has a research based institute which aims at development of Odia language, literature, culture and Odia Community. As the state ranked at the bottom in terms of public funded academic and research institutions; it has always been a priority to research. Since the establishment of the institute, there have been five major research projects. One project has been completed and two research projects are underway. Preparations are underway to launch two more research projects. The first research project of the organization was based on Oriya language. According to the research project, Oriya language has gained classical status.[1] As the institute's second research project, extensive research is underway on the origin and evolution of the Indian script. The third research project is the Ancient Trade and Traditional Festival of Odisha, which is nearing completion.
Present office campusEdit
The Government of Odisha has allotted a Government Quarters at BJB Nagar for Research and publication work of the institute. In addition, the Institute take a rented building at Saheed nagar, Bhubaneswar for Teaching, Training and other activities since 2015.

Research workEdit
IOSR has always been a priority to Research for human development. In this Regards, IOSR organising National level seminars and conferences before deciding on which research to be done, and seek the advice of experts. For the past 10 years, the institute has been conducting about 15 national level seminars and 7 national language conferences for this perpose.
Odia as a classical languageEdit
The first research project of the organization was based on the Odia language. In order to explore the ancient history and glory of the Odia language, IOSR developed a research paper for the classical recognition of the Odia language. The study breaks down the pre-existing idea that Odia is a 500-year-old language, with a 2,500-year history of the language, a 2,000-year-old literature, and a script that was created from primitive caves below 20,000 years old. The research paper proves that the origin of the script, especially in all the scripts of India, is derived from Odisha. According to the Central Government's Home Department, the Odia language has been given classical status, but after two years of research, it has given glory to the Odia language and the importance of the Odia language as an ancient and prosperous language in the world.
Origin and development of the Indian scriptEdit
As the institute's second research project, the institute is conducting extensive research on the origin and Development of the Indian scripts. Dr. Subrat Kumar Prusty, Member Secretary of IOSR and UGC Research Scholar, who has prepared the research Document for classical status of the Odia language, are engaged in this research. The main goal of this research project is to get to the root of the Indian script. As a result, the way in which the Indian language script has been created and developed can be brought to the forefront and all the misconceptions that have existed over the Indian script for over 150 years can be easily removed. In this regard, Dr. Prusty's research papers have been presented at various national and international seminars and conferences and have been highly acclaimed by scholars from all over the world. As part of the project, a special date has been set for the pre-Brahmi script as the first form of the Indian script, and the script, along with the original cave paintings and paintings, and the only script, the Indus Valley script, have been adopted in this phase. The project is being funded by various charities and financially supported by various institutions.
Ancient trade and traditional festival of OdishaEdit
The institute's third research project is the Ancient Trade and Traditional Festival of Odisha. The results of the Third National Language Conference organized by the institute show how the maritime tradition that has strengthened the economy of Odisha. How in the past it has created a prosperous culture and brought women to a respectable class. The main task of this research project is to show how the role of women for the betterment and well-being of the family has streamlined and developed the economy, social life of the family through the celebration of all the cultural festivals of Odisha by the women. Suchismita Das, an economics researcher, has been employed by the institution in this research work. The Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) Ministry of Culture, Govt. of India has been providing fellowships for two years from 2020.
Women empowerment of Odisha: emerging trends and hindrancesEdit
According to the results of the third language conference organized by the institute of Odia Studies and Research, it was decided to launch a special study on women's empowerment to make the education system more popular. In view of this, it has been decided to launch the research project for the economic and social development of women with a large part of population in Odisha.
Computational linguisticsEdit
Institute of Odia Studies and Research organized a National level conference of “Computer use in Odia language: present and future” on July 6, 2014.[3] Some of the panellists of this seminar and stakeholders of research and knowledge production in Odia language for an action plan making meeting on July 7, 2014. According to the decision of the meeting, research on natural language processing was started. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar on 15.03.2016 for intellectual support of the research project. A new research project has been developed in consultation with the Department of Computer Science at the Utkal University as part of the research.
Memorandum of understanding (MOU)Edit
1. IOSR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 20th of March, 2014 with the CMGI, GA Dept, Government of Odisha having developed an understanding, desire to pursue identified projects and activities under the joint endeavour in the field of usage of Odia language in the State administration as well as in other activities / programmes of the State Government extensively. In this connection, IOSR prepared and edited a Government official drafting book named Sarakari Bhasa Sahacar and a Flyleaf (Nathi), which was written some important official Order of Notes in English and Odia. IOSR also translated various documents of Odisha Government and Ministry of Skill development.
2. IOSR signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) on the 1st of October, 2014 with the Indira women Organisation for voluntary action (IWOVA), Odisha having developed an understanding and desire to pursue identified projects and activities under the joint endeavor in Research, Teaching, monitoring and Mobilizing women and organizing them on socio economic issues in all over Odisha.
3. IOSR has signed a Memorandum of Understanding on 15.03.2016 with the Utkal University, Bhubaneswar having desire to peruse identified projects and activities, under the joint endeavor in the field of computational linguistics and research. Objective of MoU are (a) The ultimate objective of the joint endeavor is to develop Odia to a level where it can be used as the medium of transaction in wide areas of routine activities as well as be capable of imparting knowledge in major academic/ research disciplines. (b) The immediate objective would be to develop an inter-disciplinary Centre for Computational Linguistics primarily keeping the Odia language in view.
National language conferenceEdit
The annual national language conference started after the recognition of Odia as a classical language organized by the Institute of Odia Studies and Research for two days on 2 and 3 January 2014 to prepare its next outline. The goal was to help create a platform to discuss language issues and support language movement in preserving the regional heritage and culture. The Conference was inaugurated by Hon’ble Minister of Education Badrinarayana Patra and was attended by more than two hundred scholars of languages, linguistics, humanities and sociologist. Dr. Hermann Kulke, Professor at Kiel University, Germany, Prof. H.C. Boralingaiah, Vice-Chancellor of Kananda University, Prof. K. Rathnaiah, Vice-Chancellor of Dravida University, Dr. K. Ramasamy, Founder Director CICT were participated as guests. the seventh National Language Conference (2021) was held on 31 March – 1 April 2021 at Sri Jagannath Sanskrit University, Puri, Odisha.

IOSR has opened first language library of Odisha with 5325 books, five daily and five monthly journals have been subscribed. Hon’ble Law & Panchayatiraj Minister Dr. Arun Kumar Sahu and Hon’ble Mass Education & Industry Minister Sj. Debi Prasad Mishra inaugurated the library at Bhubaneswar.[9][10]
