Bapatla district is one of the districts of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh.
History
As per Gazettee No. 939, dated the 26 January 2022, the old Guntur district, formed in 1904, was split into Guntur district, Palnadu district and Bapatla district. 12 madals from Tenali revenue division and 13 mandals from Prakasam district was merged into the newly formed Bapatla district. [1]
Geography
Bapatla district covers an area of 3,828.84 sq km. [2]
Bapatla district is bounded by the Guntur district on the north, Krishna Western Delta on the east, Bay of Bengal on the south and Palnadu and Prakasam districts on the west. [2]
Bapatla district is divided into two revenue divisions: Bapatla revenue division with 12 mandals, and Chirala revenue division with 13 mandals.[3]
The district receives an average annual rainfall of 925.3 mm. [2]
The soil in the district, generally fertile, are of two types – black cotton soil and sandy loamy soil. [2]
Demographics
Bapatla district has a population of 15,86,918, of which 17.90% lived in urban areas. [2]
It had a literacy rate of 54.70%.[2]

Education
The Agricultural College at Bapatla, founded in 1945, is the oldest agricultural college under the Acharya N. G. Ranga Agricultural University.[9]
