Nandvanshi Yadavs ruled this fort till the 17th century, after which the Rajputs started continuous attacks on the fort, after failing thrice, in the fourth time the Rajputs together with the Mughals defeated the Yadavs and took control of the fort.
During the reign of Raja Jai Singh, Daulatrao Scindia sent his General John Baptiste to attack the fort in 1816 A.D and Raja Jai Singh was defeated and the fort  was destroyed.
