The Gunmen, belonging to the Khalistan Commando Force, a Sikh militant organization demanded that the passengers hand over their valuables. After looting the passengers the Gunmen demanded the passengers huddle in the middle of the bus. The Gunmen were now on both sides of the bus and then open fired from both sides. One militant identified as Gurmit Singh was killed in the crossfire.
