Tanuku mandal is one of the 19 mandals in West Godavari district of the Indian state of Andhra Pradesh. It is under the administration of Kovvur revenue division and the headquarters are located at Tanuku.[3] The mandal is bounded by Nallajerla, Devarapalle, Nidadavolu, Unguturu, Pentapadu and Undrajavaram mandals.[4]

Rajahmundry district was formed in 1823 and in 1859 bifurcated into Godavari District and Krishna district. In 1925, Godavari district was split into East Godavari district and West Godavari district.[5][6]

The reorganisation of the districts in 2022 increased the number of districts in Andhra Pradesh from 13 to 26.[7]

As of 2011 census of India, the mandal has 9 settlements, which includes 1 town, an out growth and 8 villages. Tanuku (M) is the only town in the mandal.[1][3]
