Basra was born to Indian Punjabi Sikh parents in Portsmouth, Hampshire on the south coast of England,[2] but now resides in Mumbai, India. She has one younger brother, Rahul.[13]

She studied acting at the Kishore Namit Kapoor Acting Institute.[2][14]
