Zara Larsson (ˈsɑ̂ːra ˈlɑ̌ːʂɔn सारा लाषन् ; born 16 December 1997) is a Swedish singer and songwriter who first gained recognition in 2008 after winning the second season of the Swedish talent show competition Talang. In 2012, Larsson signed with Ten Music Group and released her debut extended play Introducing the following year. The EP's lead single "Uncover" achieved commercial success, reaching number one in Sweden where it received six-times platinum certification, as well as charting in Norway. Her first studio album, titled simply 1 (released in 2014), produced the Swedish top-ten singles "Carry You Home" and "Rooftop".

Larsson later signed a three-year contract with Epic Records in the United States, through which she released her debut international album, So Good (2017). The record became her second number-one album in Sweden, while charting in the top-ten in seven other countries. Its lead single "Lush Life" charted in the top-five in 18 countries and became one of the best-selling songs of the 2010s in the United Kingdom. The album features the follow-up singles "Never Forget You" (with MNEK) and "Ain't My Fault", both of which reached number one in Sweden, as well as "I Would Like", which reached number two in the UK. Larsson was featured on Clean Bandit's 2017 single "Symphony", which topped the UK singles chart, as well as the Swedish and Norwegian charts. Her third studio album, Poster Girl(2021), was led by the single "Ruin My Life", which reached the top ten in the UK and Sweden, and earned a platinum certification in the United States.

Zara Maria Larsson was born on 16 December 1997 in Solna, Stockholm, to Agnetha and Anders Larsson.[1][2] In a July 2015 interview with Svenska Dagbladet, she revealed that she was born "clinically dead" due to oxygen deprivation caused by a nuchal cord.

Raised in Tallkrogen, Enskede—south of Stockholm—Larsson’s mother worked as a nursing assistant, while her father served as a military officer.[3] She has a younger sister, Hanna, who is also a singer and a member of the band Lennix.[4]

Her early education began at Gubbängsskolan before she transferred to the Royal Swedish Ballet School in third grade.[5] She later attended Kulturama, an arts-focused secondary school in Stockholm.[6] Larsson has cited Carola Häggkvist and Whitney Houston as early musical influences and has stated that she decided at the age of five to pursue a career that would make her "immortal", much like Elvis Presley.

In 2015, Larsson was among 58 celebrities invited to plan and host a summer talk show broadcast on Sveriges Radio. The 48-minute programme, aired live on the P1 channel on 25 July 2015, featured her discussing various aspects of her life and career.[7] At 17 years old, Larsson became the youngest celebrity to host such a programme, surpassing the previous record held by Robyn and Gina Dirawi who were 20 when they participated.[8] Her talk covered topics including her personal life, music career, feminist perspectives, public reactions to her work, and her feelings about her public persona.

Between 2017 and 2019, Larsson maintained a relationship with English model Brian H. Whittaker, despite having first tweeted about him in 2015 and only meeting him two years later.[9][10] Since 2020, she has been in a relationship with Swedish dancer Lamin Holmén.[11][better source needed]

On 18 May 2017, Larsson launched her own fashion collection in collaboration with H&M, which included various garments and accessories.[12][13] She was actively involved in the creative process, making key decisions regarding product selection, colour schemes, and fitting arrangements. The collection predominantly features pink as its signature colour throughout all items.[13][14]

Larsson previously adhered to a vegetarian diet.[15]
