Vineeth Sreenivasan (born 1 October 1984) is an Indian playback singer, actor, film director, screenwriter, producer, lyricist, music composer, creative director and dubbing artist. He predominantly works in Malayalam cinema. Vineeth is son of the actor-screenwriter Sreenivasan.

He made his film debut in 2003 singing the song "Kasavinte Thattamittu" from Kilichundan Mampazham, and later also worked in music albums. Vineeth made his acting debut in Cycle (2008), and since then he has acted in numerous films. His directorial debut was in 2010 with Malarvaadi Arts Club, also written by him. He scripted and directed the film Thira in 2013, which introduced his younger brother Dhyan Sreenivasan as an actor.

Vineeth's second directorial venture Thattathin Marayathu (2012) became one of the highest-grossing films of 2012. His first script for another director was Oru Vadakkan Selfie (2015), directed by G. Pajith. His most recent directorial was Jacobinte Swargarajyam (2016).[1] Vineeth established the film production house named Habit of Life and produced its debut film Aanandam in 2017.

Early life and family[edit]

Vineeth Sreenivasan is the eldest son of Malayalam screenwriter and actor Sreenivasan and Vimala.[2] He completed his primary education from nursery to 10th standard at Rani Jai Higher Secondary School. He graduated in mechanical engineering from KCG College of Technology, Chennai.

Career[edit]

He is a part of the band Malayalee with Jakes Bejoy, Shaan Rahman and Arjun Sasi. He made his acting debut playing one of the main protagonists in the Malayalam film Cycle, which did well at the box office.[3] He did his second movie role with his father in the movie Makante Achan.

He writes the lyrics of most of his album songs and has also shown his direction skills in directing his own music videos. His music album Coffee @ MG Road became a super-hit instantly. He got first prize in Mappilappattu in the Kerala State Youth Festival 1998, where he showed his ability for quick wit. When he was asked whether his father liked him singing Mappilappattu, he answered, "He didn't have any hatred towards my Mappilappattu, to my knowledge."

Vineeth won the AMMA Best Male Singer Award 2008 for his songs "Mampullikkavil" and "Jillu Jillu" and also the Best Male new face of the year 2008 by Asianet, for his role in Cycle. Vineeth wrote the script and Lyrics and debuted as director for the movie Malarvadi Arts Club with seven new young actors. He won the Asiavision award for the best debutant director for Malarvadi Arts Club. Thattathin Marayathu is the second movie in which he was the screenwriter, director and playback singer. His third movie Thira was released in 2013, in which he introduced his younger brother Dhyan Sreenivasan.

Personal life[edit]

Vineeth married Divya Narayanan on 18 October 2012, after an eight-year-long relationship since 30 March 2004. She was his junior at KCG College of Technology in Chennai.[4] The couple have a son Vihaan Divya Vineeth on 30 June 2017[5] and a daughter Shanaya Divya Vineeth on 2 October 2019.
