Vaibhav Suryavanshi, born on 27 March 2011, is an emerging Indian cricketer who represents Bihar in domestic cricket and plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL). As a left-handed batsman, he made his first-class debut for Bihar in January 2024 at the age of 12, later achieving the distinction of being the youngest Indian to make a List A debut at just 13 years old. Additionally, in April 2025, he became the youngest player ever to debut in the IPL at 14 years and 23 days.

Early Life[edit]

Suryavanshi was born in Tajpur, located in the Samastipur district of Bihar, India. He began playing cricket at the age of nine and received his initial coaching from his father.

Domestic Career[edit]

At just 12 years old, Suryavanshi participated in the Vinoo Mankad Trophy representing Bihar's under-19 team. He made his first-class debut against Mumbai, becoming the second youngest cricketer to play in the Ranji Trophy for Bihar at the age of 12 years and 284 days. This achievement also made him the youngest player in the modern era to debut in first-class cricket, surpassing Yuvraj Singh’s record of 15 years and 57 days. Alimuddin still holds the record for the youngest Indian first-class debutant at 12 years and 73 days, achieved during the 1942-43 season for Rajputana.

In November 2024, he set another record by becoming the youngest player to debut in T20 cricket at 13 years and 241 days while playing for Bihar against Rajasthan. The following month, he made history again as the youngest Indian to participate in List A cricket, appearing for Bihar in the 2024–25 Vijay Hazare Trophy against Madhya Pradesh at the age of 13 years and 269 days.

Youth International Career[edit]

In 2023, Suryavanshi played for the India B under-19 team in a quadrangular series, accumulating 177 runs in six innings, which included two half-centuries. He made his debut for the India under-19 team in September 2024 against Australia under-19s, where he scored a remarkable century off just 58 balls, marking the fastest century for an Indian under-19 player and finishing with a total of 104 runs. This performance was notable as it was the second-fastest century in under-19 international cricket.

During the 2024 ACC Under-19 Asia Cup, Suryavanshi impressed with scores of 76 off 46 balls against UAE under-19s and 67 runs off 36 balls in the semi-final against Sri Lanka.

In November 2024, he made headlines by becoming the youngest player to sign an IPL contract when he was acquired by the Rajasthan Royals for 1.1 crore at the age of 13.

IPL Career[edit]

On 19 April 2025, Suryavanshi debuted in the IPL for Rajasthan Royals against the Lucknow Super Giants, achieving the record of being the youngest debutant in IPL history at 14 years and 23 days. Notably, he is the first player in the IPL born after the tournament commenced in 2008. In his inaugural match, he scored 34 runs off 20 balls, including a six on his very first ball.

Age Dispute[edit]

There have been questions regarding the authenticity of Suryavanshi's official date of birth. In a 2023 interview, he stated that he celebrated his 14th birthday on 27 September 2023, indicating that he might be about a year and a half older than his officially recorded age.
