Vadinar Port

Vadinar Oil Terminal Ltd (VOTL) is an integrated oil terminal situated at Vadinar with a capacity of 58 million metric tonnes per annum (MMTPA) and handles crude oil and petroleum products.[1]

India’s first unloading Single Point Mooring (SPM) at Indian Oil Corporation was commissioned in 1978.[2]The Deendayal Port Authority had commissioned the Off-shore Oil Terminal facilities at Vadinar in the year 1978, for which M/s. Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) provided Single Bouy Mooring (SBM) system, having a capacity of 54 MMTPA, which was first of its kind in India. Further, significant Quantum of infrastructural upgradation has been carried out & excellent maritime infrastructure has been created at Vadinar for the 32MMTPA Essar Oil Refinery in Jamnagar District.[3]

IOC currently operates two SPM terminals at Vadinar, in the south of the Gulf of Kutch for unloading of crude oil brought in tankers for transportation to shore tanks through pipelines, of which around 14 km is subsea. [4]

Essar commissioned the Vadinar Oil Terminal Ltd (VOTL) and is currently operated by Nayara Energy, in 2006.[5]

Strategically located at the southern tip of the Gulf of Kutch, VOTL is a 58-MMTPA facility consisting of a marine terminal; crude, product and intermediate storage tankage of over 3 million cubic metre capacity, and rail and road gantries with 13 kms of railway siding. These facilities are critical for the successful operation of Essar’s 20 MTPA Vadinar Refinery.[6]

Expansion[edit]

Russia oil giant Rosneft-led Nayara Energy, formerly Essar Oil, is planning to add a Single Point Mooring (SPM) facility at Vadinar port in Gujarat at a cost of Rs 500 crore to handle additional requirement of crude oil. [7]
