The Mandalorian is an American space Western TV series created by Jon Favreau for Disney+. It is the first live-action series in the Star Wars universe and starts five years after the events of Return of the Jedi(1983). The show follows a solitary bounty hunter who protects a Force-sensitive child named Grogu from the remaining Imperial forces.

Pedro Pascal plays the title character, and Katee Sackhoff joins the cast in the third season. The concept of a live-action Star Wars TV series was first explored by Star Wars creator George Lucas in 2009, but it was deemed too costly to produce at the time. In October 2012, Lucas sold Lucasfilm to Disney, and work on a new Star Wars series for Disney+ began. Jon Favreau joined as the writer and showrunner in March 2018, and he is executive producing the series alongside Dave Filoni, Kathleen Kennedy, and Colin Wilson. Rick Famuyiwa also joined the executive producer team for the third season. The show's title was revealed in October 2018, and filming began at Manhattan Beach Studios in California. Industrial Light & Magic, a visual effects company, developed the StageCraft technology, which uses a 360-degree video wall to display digital backgrounds. This innovative technology has since been adopted by other film and television productions.
