Template:Infobox person/doc

This template is used to create an infobox for a person's biography. It is a modified version of the standard infobox-person template, with additional fields for ethnicity, religion, denomination, residence, influences/influenced, other political affiliation, and a settable box width.

Usage

Copy and paste the following blank template into an article, removing any parameters you do not need:

Parameters

Core identity

Parameter	Description
name	The person's common name, displayed at the top of the infobox.
image	Filename of an image of the person, without the File: prefix.
caption	Caption for the image.
native_name	Name in the person's native language.
native_name_lang	ISO 639 code for the native name's language, e.g. ur, hi, pa.
honorific_prefix	Honorific title before the name, e.g. "The Honourable".
honorific_suffix	Honorific title after the name, e.g. OBE.
pronunciation	Phonetic pronunciation of the name.
birth_name	Full birth name if different from name.
other_names	Alternative names, aliases, or nicknames.
birth_date	Date of birth. Use {{birth date}} or {{birth date and age}}.
birth_place	Place of birth.
death_date	Date of death. Use {{death date}} or {{death date and age}}.
death_place	Place of death.
death_cause	Cause of death.
burial_place	Place of burial.
resting_place	Alternative to burial_place; use if the body rests somewhere other than a burial site.

Demographics

Parameter	Description
nationality	The person's legal nationality or citizenship status, e.g. [[Pakistan]]i.
ethnicity	The person's ethnic group. Use with care — may be contentious.
religion	The person's religious affiliation, if notable and reliably sourced.
denomination	The specific denomination within a religion, e.g. [[Sunni Islam|Sunni]].
citizenship	Citizenship if different from or additional to nationality.
residence	Current or notable place of residence.

Career and education

education	Schools or institutions attended.
alma_mater	Degree-granting institution or institutions.
occupation	Primary occupation or occupations.
years_active	Years during which the person was active in their field.
era	Historical era or period of significance.
employer	Primary employer.

known_for	What the person is best known for.
notable_works	Notable work or publication.

home_town	Person's home town, distinct from birthplace.
net_worth	Estimated net worth, with year and source.

party	Current or last political party.

movement	Political, artistic, or social movement the person is associated with.
influences	People, works, or movements that influenced the subject. Added in this version.
influenced	People, works, or movements influenced by the subject. Added in this version.
opponents	Notable opponent or opponents.
boards	Boards the person sits or sat on.
criminal_charges	Criminal charge or charges filed against the person.
criminal_penalty	Sentence or penalty imposed.
criminal_status	Current criminal status.

Personal life

Parameter	Description
spouse	Name or names of spouse or spouses. Use {{marriage}} for dated entries.
partner	Long-term partner or partners who are not spouses.
children	Number of children, or names if notable.
parents	Names of parents.
relatives	Notable relatives.
family	Family name or dynasty.

callsign	Amateur radio callsign.

signature	Filename of the person's signature image.

Tracking categories

The template automatically places articles into the following tracking categories when certain conditions are met:

• Category:Pages using infobox person with unknown parameters
• Category:Infobox person using certain parameters when dead
• Category:Biography template using pronunciation
• Category:Biography with signature
• Category:Articles with hCards

Notes on contentious parameters

The parameters religion, denomination, and ethnicity were removed from the standard infobox-person template in 2016 due to concerns about:

• Poor sourcing and original research.
• Neutral-point-of-view problems.
• Overcategorisation of biographical subjects.

Before using these parameters in an article:

1. Ensure the value is supported by a reliable, published source.
2. Reflect the value in the article body, not only in the infobox.
3. Consider whether the information is genuinely central to the subject's notability. If not, omit it.
4. Be prepared for the value to be challenged or removed by other editors.
